You see, this is why I didn't tell her. I knew she'd react like 
this. The trouble with my wife is that she doesn't look at the 
big picture. I've been in politics one way or another for more 
than half my life. Sam just doesn't understand the 
complexities, the subtle shifts of power. She lives in a world 
full of theory and empirical laws. My world is much more 
abstruse, requiring a damn site more legerdemain than the 
absolutes of physics would allow.
 
 We have it so good. The Ashen have given us a lifestyle 
beyond our wildest dreams. Long disease free lives, poverty a 
thing of the past. So, we had to sacrifice a few things but that's 
the price you pay. We're playing in the big league now and we 
have to be ready to do what it takes to get what we want. I wish 
she'd understand but she's never been a political animal, not 
my Sam. She's too damn honest for one thing.  If only she 
wouldn't look at me like that, as if I've betrayed her. I did it all 
for us, she must understand that. God, I hope she doesn't do 
something stupid.
