Perspective By: siggy Rating: All ages Category: I have no idea Spoilers: Teeny one for 'Urgo' Disclaimer: Not mine and no money is being made Written for Gateship's Wednesday Shorts 'Urgo' Challenge Since joining the SGC, Janet Fraiser had been introduced to situations and phenomena, that, had she been a Doctor in a 'normal' hospital, she might otherwise, have missed out on. There had been some truly terrifying moments that had stretched her medical skills to the limit and sometimes beyond. She would never admit to anybody how often she actually winged it. That was certainly the case when she spent a few days with SG-1 trying to make conversation with a figment of their imaginations. Oh okay he was an electronically induced image produce in their brains, but for all intents and purposes it was like being four years old and talking to an imaginary friend. In a flash of almost horror, she truly understood how bizarre her life had become. A week later after everything had calmed down and SG-1 were once again considered to be of sound mind, well at least as sound as they were going to get, Janet sat on her sofa with her feet tucked under her and a large glass of Merlot in her hands. "Does it ever get too much Sam?" she said, her finger gently circling the rim of her glass, making it hum. "I mean, when does it just get too weird, too far from normal to handle?" She looked across at her companion who was sipping her wine as she relaxed with her stocking feet on the coffee table. "I don't know, I guess it's all a matter of perspective, when the unusual and the downright whacko are a regular part of your day, then that just becomes normal for you. Sure, I could have done without some of the weird stuff, but most of it is just…well, wonderful." Janet smiled, "Yeah, I guess some of it is pretty wonderful, I sometimes wish I knew what was coming around the corner though, don't you?" "I've always liked surprises." Sam grinned that grin of hers that Janet always thought made her look a little wild, as though she was on the high seas, dagger between her teeth and a Jolly Roger flying on the mast over her head. "Hmmm, well, I like surprises too, just not the sort that can bring a rather abrupt end to your day. There're rather too many of those flying about." Janet took a long drink of her wine and reached over to the bottle to top up her glass. "Jan, you're not thinking of transferring are you?" Janet looked up to see a worried frown on Sam's face. "No, God, no, Sam, I wouldn't leave the SGC, it's like a second home, and Cassie would miss you guys so much. It's just that, well, sometimes I'd just like things to be a little more predictable, you know? A normal life, not constantly wondering if I'll be able to deal with whatever you guys bring through the gate, worrying whether I'll screw up and miss something that kills half the planet." She rubbed her temple distractedly, feeling suddenly tired. "Me and the guys are going out tomorrow, Teal'c has expressed an interest in Karaoke night at O'Malley's. Why don't you come too? Okay I know it's not exactly 'normal' going to see a friendly alien with a sentient parasite in his gut singing 'My Way' but it's pretty close as far as SG-1 is concerned." Janet thought for a moment, and then she smiled. " I'd like that. It sounds pretty unmissable." "You bet, wait until you hear Daniel's version of 'Disco Inferno'" "No?" "Oh yeah." "Well, that I've got to see," Janet laughed and suddenly she didn't feel so tired. .
