No Surprises By: afg – www.ofnoconsequence.com Rating: All ages Spoilers: Revelations Disclaimer: Not mine and no money is being made He doesn't know what she wants him to say. There she is with those damned, blue eyes of hers and her heart on her sleeve. Does she want him to cry, to rage against the unfairness of it all? Well she is going to have a long wait. He'd figured out that life was unfair a long time ago and all the crying in the world won't alter that. It won't bring Daniel back. Christ knows it hadn't given him back his son. A long time ago he'd considered himself to be a sensitive man, but years of carrying out covert operations had hardened him. It had been the refuge of his family, his wife and his child that had kept his heart from the cold. When Charlie had died he'd taken a part of Jack O'Neill with him and in a strange way it had been a relief not to feel those extremes of emotion, there were no surprises that way. The irony was, that being with his team for all these years, that part of him, that he'd thought was lost had, he'd discovered, crept back into the recesses of his soul to lie in wait until it could burst forth like some bikinied lovely out of a birthday cake. At this very moment all he wants to do is to get away from Carter. He knows she's hurting but he can't do anything about that right now. He can feel the pressure building in his chest, the crushing feeling of claustrophobia, the thickness in his throat. He has to get away; he has to set his mind on work, preferably on blasting the crap out of something. He just knows he can't stay here with Carter looking at him like that. Because if he stays, she'll get a hell of a lot more than she's bargained for and he knows that Carter doesn't like surprises anymore than he does.
